The Salem Storytellers Project is a series of live storytelling nights featuring true, first-person stories from people in the community.
It was founded by Megan Finnerty at the Arizona Republic in 2011 with support from Liz Warren and Marilyn Omifunke Torres at the South Mountain Community College Storytelling Institute. The project has expanded to more than 21 cities across the country, including Salem in 2018.
The events in Salem, each emceed by me, have touched on loss, heartbreak, second chances, new beginnings, family and culture during the project's inaugural season.
You can find all 15 stories told so far here.
